A Turning Point

Before 2020, Santa Clara was at a crossroads with one foot in the past and one foot in the future. Also before 2020 Santa Clara was in deep deficits by a prior council that was irresponsible with taxpayers money. From deficits, to dysfunction, to constant litigation, Santa Clara needed a change.

Anthony was elected during the pandemic in 2020. What was a crisis in our community became a turning point. With meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to Santa Clara excellence, Anthony and the new City Council created a City Council that worked for the people and elevated their quality of life as their priorities.

Since Santa Clara has reduced it’s deficits, replenished it’s reserves and found new revenue sources from concerts/events at our stadium to the passing of Measure H business license tax update. Santa Clara is on the path to a healthy, financially stable and sustainable future.

A Dedicated Public Servant

 Accomplishments

• Ended the costly CVRA (California Voting Rights Act) lawsuit that past leadership cost the city $6 Million dollars.

• Removed the weekday Music Ban which inhibited the ability to book concerts/events that hinder revenue from coming to our community. Since the removal of the ban and relaxation of the curfew up to 5 times a year, Levi’s Stadium has had its busiest years yet and looks to net Santa Clara millions.

• Was instrumental in bringing FIFA World Cup to Santa Clara in 2026 and Super Bowl 60.

• Supported the implementation of Santa Clara’s Homeless Taskforce the first of its kind in our city’s history and the first step into housing the unhoused.

• Advocate for low-income, unhoused housing, and assisted living housing

• Voted for a 100% affordable housing project on Civic Center drive that takes families off the streets and roofs over their head.

• Re-Funded our Public Safety which was going to face cuts in past budgets. With rising crime this was essential; also avoided cutting the DARE program.

• Reduced wasteful spending

• Championed and broke ground on two new 100% affordable housing community developments.

• Supported the signature development The Agrihood from the planning stage to being a part of the groundbreaking in 2021 and part of the grand opening in 2023.

• On every project ask developers to make affordable housing components for their projects to be 15% or more and propose that we raise it to 20% by ordinance. As well as require more community benefits.

• Supported the extension of the water and sewer rate assistance program that included the continuation of stopping disconnections because of lack of the ability to pay as well as supported further funding for the rental assistance program that benefited Santa Clara’s low-income households.

• I keep my finger on the pulse of the community by having town hall meetings with residents to listen to their concerns, as well as meet with residents frequently to address their concerns or issues.

• Had community meetings with the bicycle community on Pruneridge Avenue complete streets plan that identified safety improvements and took steps closer to Vision Zero

• Supported the 2022 Climate Action Plan that went above state requirements by setting new targets for reaching aggressive emissions reductions across five main focus areas: development, transportation, land use, materials and consumption. The proposed targets are Near Term: a 40% reduction in GHG emissions by 2030 (SB32); Interim: an 80% reduction in GHG emissions by 2035; Long Term: Carbon neutrality no later than 2045 (EO B-55-18)

• art impact fee implemented upon approval that would showcase local artists.

• While on the planning commission worked with planning staff and fellow commissioner and current Councilmember Sudhanshu Jain on reducing restrictions on live music in restaurants in Santa Clara which also would diminish the high permit cost.

• Pressed developers for ride-share, food, and package delivery designated parking spots in new projects to prevent parking in the middle of the streets.

• On Planning Commission voted to approve one of the first Hydrogen Fueling Stations in the area right here in Santa Clara.

• Supported requiring developers upon approval to implement more EV charging spots in projects.

• Required all-new Data Center projects to have design appeal for the community by implementing local artist’s pieces into their proposals.

• Fully funded the plan for a Lawn Bowl Replacement Clubhouse that was promised since 2002.

•Championed the new Downtown Project since 2016 with it always in my priorities. In 2023 made the motion to adopt and pass the Downtown Precise Plan

• Supported and advocated a new fence for a failing sound wall surrounding the Laurel Park East neighborhood on Pruneridge Ave. Made the motion and gained a consensus to pass it.

•Assured aesthetically pleasing projects by requiring they just don’t look like square boxes, rather enhance them to be desirable villages and with iconic architecture. Examples, “The Benton” on El Camino and Benton; and Coleman Ave project across from Costco.

•On the Stevens Creek Corridor committee crafted a vision with neighboring city leaders on how the future corridor should look with housing, urban villages, transportation options, biking and businesses.
